Karnataka Director General of Police L Pachau has said that arrested ISIS Twitter account handler Mehdi Masroor Biswas was close to English speaking terrorists of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria. Addressing a press conference in Bengaluru Saturday, he said Mehdi Masroor Biswas has confessed that he was operating the ISIS Twitter account for last many years. Masroor Biswas, hailing from West Bengal, was arrested in Bengaluru Saturday. Mr Pachau said, Mehdi is an engineer with a Bengaluru-based multinational company.
Mr Pachau said, the accused had more than 17 thousand followers on Twitter and used to ferociously tweet by aggregating information and closely watching developments of the region.
Bengaluru Police Commissioner MN Reddi said, it is being investigated whether the accused had any link with ISIS adding that interrogation reveals that he was majorly in the virtual world.
Mr Reddi said, during interrogation it was found that Mehdi was a sympathiser of ISIS and had no weapons in his possession. The Police Commissioner also informed that Mehdi was found active only in the virtual world and had not travelled abroad and no person had approached him in connection with ISIS activities. He tweeted extensively using 60 GB Internet plan, with over 17,000 followers about the terror organisation and translated Arabic materials into English and posted them online since 2009.
