Arrangements made for tomorrow’s AP bye-elections

In Andhra Pradesh, elaborate arrangements have been made for tomorrow’s bye-elections for Nellore Lok Sabha and 18 Assembly constituencies in the state. Over 46 lakh voters are expected to utilise their franchise at 5413 polling stations set up in 12 districts. A total 255 candidates are in the fray while all major political parties fielded their candidates in the bye-elections. About 140 companies of Central Armed Forces besides State Special Police forces have been deployed. About 50 thousand persons are attending polling duties.Taking all possible measures to ensure free and fair bye-polls, the election authorities have put in place a number of restrictions on door-to-door campaign, distribution of voter slips and on bulk SMSs. For the first time, the Electoral Photo Identity Cards are being used as the only identity for Voters. Following resignation of sitting MP and disqualification of the MLAs, the bye-election was necessitated.
