Former champion Army XI clinched Murugappa Gold Cup hockey title by defeating Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, BPCL, of Mumbai 2-1. in a keenly contested summit-clash in Chennai on Sunday. The match began on a defensive note as the teams went for man-to-man marking. But the Armymen had better ball possession and formations in the BPCL circle. Army XI, who have exhibited better brand of hockey all through the tournament, demolishing defending champions Air India in their first league, had progressed to the final with their positive approach.
