Army rescues boy stranded on cliff in Palakkad district, Kerala

<span style="color: #222222;">In Kerala, the army rescued a young man who fell down a steep hill at Malampuzha in. The youth was lifted about 400 meters and brought to the hilltop this morning using a rope. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Earlier, an army man rappelled down the hill to reach the rock cavity where the thoroughly exhausted youngster spent the past 45 hours braving adverse weather conditions. He was given snacks and water by the army personnel. Later one more army man joined the efforts to take the boy to the hilltop.<br />'' <br />'' The youth along with his friends had gone trekking the hills on Monday, when he accidentally slipped and fell onto the rock cavity. A Coast Guard helicopter will be used to airlift him to the hospital.<br />'' <br />'' AIR correspondent reports It was perhaps for the first time in the state that a rescue effort of this magnitude was mounted to save the life of a single individual. It was an effort spearheaded by the army with the help of the NDRF, police, revenue officials, and the public.<br />'' <br />'' The youth, Babu, who along with friends had gone trekking the hill on Monday, accidentally fell off a steep hill, forcing him to spend the next 45 hours in a rock cavity. He spent the gruelling hours without food or water braving adverse weather and extremely dangerous conditions.<br />'' <br />'' The army team summoned by the state government arrived last night, trekked the difficult terrain to reach the hilltop around midnight.<br />'' <br />'' Army personnel rappelled down the steep rock using a rope to reach the rock cavity where the youth was found trapped. He was immediately provided refreshments and was lifted about 400 meters to the safety of the hilltop.<br />'' <br />''<br />''Spontaneous applause and hugs greeted the youngster as he profusely thanked his rescuers.  A military helicopter  airlifted the exhausted youth to  Kanjikode from where he was immediately shifted to the Palakkad District hospital."</span>
