The Army today said it had selected people with abilities to win gold medals in the 19th Commonwealth Games. Army chief General V K Singh said this while talking to newsmen in New Delhi today. Army personnel have won 16 medals, including 7 gold in the ongoing games. Pointing out that sports was an important part of Army, he said his personnel have achieved success in almost all the disciplines in which they were fielded. Flagging-in the motorcycles expedition, the Army chief congratulated the team for covering more than 7,500 kms on motorcycles to pay homage to India martyrs, who lost their lives in the battlefields of Europe during World War I and World War II.The Indian Army team comprising seven officers, including two lady officers and three jawans, on six Enfield motorcycles travelled by road to Mumbai from where they were airlifted to Turkey to commence the expedition. The team traversed through Turkey, Greece, Italy, France and United Kingdom covering a distance of approximately 7,500 kms in 41 days.
