An army jawan posted at the 55 Base Hospital was accidentally shot dead by his colleague in Assam's Sonitpur district today. <br/><br/>Police said that Havildar Mani Ram, hailing from Uttar Pradesh, was shot dead by Havildar Rajnandan Singh, also posted at the hospital, when his 9 mm carbine went off accidentally.<br/><br/>Singh, who hails from Bihar, has been taken into police custody while Mani Ram's body has been sent for postmortem. Defence sources said the cause of the death was accidental and an inquiry into it is on.
