Army in Kashmir only a deterrent: HM

<br/>The Home Minister today said that purpose of deploying the army in the Kashmir valley is only to serve as a deterrent and the major burden of the law and order and curfew enforcement is being borne by the J&K police. He said that most of the affected areas in there valley are being patrolled and curfew is being enforced by the Jammu and Kashmir police and para military forces. He said that the army is being kept ready in case it becomes necessary to deploy them. <br/><br/>Mr. P. Chidambaram said that the He said that the army will be deployed as long as necessary and hoped that it will not be there too long. Replying to the questions on the situation in the Kashmir valley, the Home Minister said that there has been no report of any incident so far today and only two minor incidents were reported yesterday. He once again appealed on the people to observe the curfew and stay indoors. He said that it is important that the people do not come out in the streets to pelt stones. He specially appealed to the parents to ensure that their children remain indoors. He also hoped that the state government will be able to relax the curfew at selected places.
