Army Day: Army Chief General Manoj Pande says situation along with northern border is stable but unpredictable

Army Chief General Manoj Pande has said that the situation along the northern border of the country is stable and under control but unpredictable. He assured that Indian troops are adequately deployed to effectively deal with any contingency and that the country's military preparedness is of high standard. Addressing media in New Delhi today, ahead of the Army Day, he said the troops deployed along the Line of Actual Control had been able to maintain a robust posture to prevent any attempts from adversaries to unilaterally change the status quo in a firm and resolute manner.<br />''<br />''General Pande said, ceasefire at Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir is holding well but cross-border support to terrorism still remains. He added that the Indian Army is focussing on modernization, leveraging of niche technologies and infrastructure development to strengthen combat preparedness. On the induction of the assault rifle AK203, General Pande said, initial components required for the rifles are expected to be delivered by March this year. On the land subsidence incident in Joshimath and its impact on army infrastructure, he said, around 25 to 28 buildings have been impacted and some soldiers have been relocated to other safer places. He denied that the situation in Joshimath will impact the operational readiness and access of forces to forward areas. Speaking on the situation in Doklam, General Pande said, India is keeping a close watch on the situation and monitoring all the activities there. <br />''<br />
