In Jammu & Kashmir, the Chief of Army Staff Gen Dalbir Singh today visited the north Kashmir's Kupwara to have an on the spot assessment of the overall security situation. He was briefed about the incidents in Handwara that witnessed violent protests in the past few days. The April 12 incident of alleged molestation by Army man sparked off large scale protests in Handwara and in whole Valley. Five persons including a woman were killed in alleged security forces' actions after the alleged molestation incident.<br/><br/>Accompanied by Northern Army Commander Lt. Gen DS Hooda and Srinagar based 15 (Chinar) Corps Commander Lt. Gen Satish Dua, Gen Dalbir Singh interacted with the officers and troops. Army Chief reviewed the operational preparedness of the units deployed along the Line of Control and the hinterland. He impressed upon the army Corps to ensure security in the area while working in coordination with Police and Civil Administration. Earlier, the Army Chief was briefed by the Corps Commander, Lt. Gen Satish Dua on the overall security situation and the preparedness of Chinar Corps in dealing with the emerging challenges.<br/><br/>Meanwhile, the authorities are likely to lift curfew in Handwara and other areas of Kupwara district tomorrow. Three main army bunkers and main bunker on the round about in Handwara town were removed today. Police has arrested Hilal Ahmed Bandey who is one of the two accused named by Handwara girl in molestation case controversy that triggered widespread protests leading to subsequent five civilian killings. The State government has ordered a probe by Additional District Magistrate into the firing incident of April 12 in Handwara in which three civilians were killed.<br/><br/>State Women's Commission said the Commission's first priority was to keep minor Handwara girl away from Police, media and different agencies so that the girl could return to stable state of mind while living along with her parents. The Commission is working on shifting her to a safer place with the consent of her parents. The family will have access to the legal team or lawyer of their own choice to attend to the legal issues risen out of the April 12 controversy. The case is listed for next hearing J&K High Court tomorrow.
