Army Chief recommends administrative action against four generals in land scam

Army Chief General Deepak Kapoor has recommended administrative action against Military Secretary and other senior Generals who were indicted by the Court of Inquiry in the Sukhna Army Land Scam.<br/><br/>Highly placed defence sources said in New Delhi, four officers will be given 30 days time to show cause why action should not be taken against them for issuing a No Objection Certificate to a private realtor in Siliguri to purchase a 70-acre land adjacent to Sukna military station. <br/><br/>The Defence Ministry will initiate action according to the Army Act. Our correspondent reports Lt Gen Avadesh Prakash, Military Secretary who is to retire from the service on 31st of this month, was one of the eight principal staff officers at the Army Headquarters, who acts as an advisor to the Army Chief.<br/><br/>Earlier, in December 2009, the Eastern Army Command chief had recommended his dismissal.<br/><br/>The report also recommended initiating proceedings against Lt. Gen. P.K. Rath, whose appointment as deputy chief of army staff has been scrapped by the Defence Ministry.
