Army Chief leaves for three day visit to Mongolia

The Army Chief General V.K. Singh today left for a three day visit to Mongolia to strengthen defence ties. General Singh's visit marks the first one by an Army Chief to Mongolia in seven years.

An army spokesperson said in New Delhi that defence cooperation between India and Mongolia encompassed conduct of joint exercises and training of Mongolian armed forces at Indian establishments.

AIR correspondent reports that the President Mrs. Pratibha Devi Singh Patil had visited Mongolia in July this year. This was the first ever visit by any Indian President in last 24 years.

During her visit, several bilateral strategic agreements were signed including Defence Cooperation. General Singh's visit is a follow up to these agreements.
