Army chief in Leh to get feel of security situation in region

Army chief Gen V K Singh is in Leh today to get a first-hand feel of the security situation in the region that borders both China and Pakistan. Gen Singh met local commanders and held discussions on the preparedness of the forces deployed in the region – both on the eastern and western fronts. The visit assumes significance as it comes ahead of the Annual Defence Dialogue between India and China on the 9th of this month.

Our correspondent reports, this is the Army Chief's second visit to Leh in the last two months, with the previous one to the Siachen Glacier last month where he had interaction with the troops of the 14 Corps which was raised after the 1999 Indo-Pak Kargil war to strengthen the country's mountainous borders along China and Pakistan.
