Army Chief General DS Suhag in Guwahati to discuss offensive major against militants

Army Chief General Dalbir Singh Suhag has arrived in Guwahati. He will meet senior defense personnel of Red Horn Division at Rangia today.

Defense sources said that General Suhag is likely to discuss offensive measures against militants following the recent massacre in Sonitpur and Kokrajhar district recently.

The army Chief met the Home Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi on Friday to discuss the situation in Assam.

The Union Home Minister had also visited the state earlier to take stock of the situation.

The army is carrying out intensive combing in all violence affected areas.

78 persons have lost their lives in recent violence.

Assam DGP Khagen Sarma said the operation against Bodo outfit would be intensified. IGP, S N Singh announced that 30 lakh rupees would be given on providing information about terrorist leader Sangbijit who is the chief of National Democratic Front of Bodoland -Sangbijit faction.

Assam Home Commissioner Prateek Hajela said the situation is improving in violence affected areas.

Day curfew has been relaxed for a few hours in violence hit Sonitpur and other districts. No untoward incident has been reported barring an arson case from Kokrajhar district during the last 24 hours.

The Assam government has instructed officials to expedite relief measures. 4 senior officials have been deployed to monitor relief.

Over 72,000 people have taken shelter at 61 relief camps in four violence hit districts.

Local people and civil society organizations have been extending supports in relief works.
