In Jammu and Kashmir , the army today celebrated its 68th Infantry Day with traditional solemnity. Rich tributes were paid to the martyred soldiers on this occasion by Chinar Corps at Badami Bagh Cantonment Srinagar. <br/><br/>Defence spokesman told AIR that 27th October, is celebrated as Infantry Day as it was on this day in 1947 that the first column of Infantry of The First Battalion of the SIKH Regiment was airlifted from Delhi to Srinagar, to save Kashmir from the Pakistan abetted tribal raiders.
