Armed militant cadres come out for mass surrender in Assam

In Assam, over three hundred highly armed militant cadres belonging to Karbi Longri N. C. Hills Liberation Front (KLNLF) have come out from deep jungles for mass surrender. They were given warm welcome by the local people as well as the administration and now taking shelter in a designated camp set up temporarily at the Diphu Polytechinque campus in Karbi Anglong district. The publicity secretary of the outfit Rijak Dera said the group, including nearly forty women cadres, will lay down arms in presence of the Union Home Minister Mr P. Chidambaram and the State Chief Minister Mr Tarun Gogoi at a function to be held at the Diphu Kasa Stadium on Thursday next. The group is likely to deposit around 200 sophisticated weapons to the authorities in the surrender ceremony. AIR Correspondent reports that the outlawed KLNLF came into being from 2004 was responsible for wanton killing of Hindi-speaking people besides violence, extortion in the twin hill districts of Karbi Anglong and North Cachar . The outfit, with around 1200 cadres, was fighting for rapid development of the twin hill districts.<br/>
