Armed Forces Tribunal indicts former Lt General Kishan Pal

Raising serious questions about the military leadership in the 1999 Kargil war, the Armed Forces Tribunal has indicted former Lieutenant General Kishan Pal, then General Officer Commanding (GoC) 15 Corps for playing down the achievements of brigadier Devinder Singh by falsifying accounts of the battle.<br/> <br/>The Tribunal has directed the Army to consider former Commander of 70 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier Devinder Singh for a notional promotion to the rank of major general. <br/> <br/>The Tribunal also directed that all the relevant records and documents pertaining to operations by Brigadier Singh's formation in Batalik sector written by Lt. Gen. Kishan Pal be corrected and put in the right perspective.<br/> <br/>In its order, the Tribunal, headed by Justice A K Mathur, held that the annual confidential reports of Brigadier Singh were not written in an objective and unbiased manner. <br/> <br/>The Tribunal observed that the then GoC was not favourably motivated towards Brigadier Singh and had attempted to tailor the report belittling his achievements. <br/>
