Armed Forces Flag Day observes throughout country

The Armed Forces Flag Day is being observed today throughout the country. The day observed since 1949, has become a tradition to remember the sacrifices and commemorate the honour to the soldiers, airmen and sailors. It is dedicated towards collection of funds from people for the welfare of the Armed Forces personnel. <br/><br/>On the occasion , Secretary of Kendriya Sainik Board Brigadier M.H. Rizvi today pinned flag on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi. It is the duty of every Indian to look after the wellbeing of those who have sacrificed their lives for the nation. Flag Day is an opportunity for every Indian citizen to contribute most generously to the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund. The week leading to the Flag Day, is celebrated as Armed Forces Week. <br/><br/>Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman recently appealed countrymen to join in this Armed Forces Week, in wearing Armed Forces flag to pay respects to the brave sons and daughters of the nation. She said people can also contribute towards welfare of war-widows, children of martyrs and ex-servicemen by visiting ksb.gov.in. <br/><br/>Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his last Mann ki Baat, welcomed the idea to instil respect for armed forces as part of a campaign. Mr Modi also said videos and pictures can be posted on #armedforcesflagday.
