Arjun Munda urges Centre to grant special status to Jharkhand

Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda has requested the Center to grant special status to Jharkhand.Speaking to reporters at the Birsa Munda Airport in Ranchi soon after his arrival from New Delhi Monday, Mr Munda said that 33 per cent of the state land is covered with forest, while other 33 per cent is having minerals, and the remaining 34 percent is not very fertile land for agriculture. He also demanded to know from the Center the criterion for awarding the status of ‘special state’.Mr. Munda returned to Ranchi after attending the National Development Council, NDC meeting at New Delhi where he had also raised this issue.
