Senior BJP leader Arjun Munda took oath oday as the eighth Chief minister of Jharkhand. His alliance include the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and All Jharkhand Student Union. Munda was administered the oath of office by Governor M.O.H. Farook. After his oath , Sudesh Mahto, president and legislature party leader of All Jharkhand Students Union and JMM legislature leader Hemant Soren, son of JMM chief Shibu Soren also took the oath. This is the third time that Munda has become the Chief Minister of the state after his stint in March 2003 and in March 2005. At 42, he is the national general secretary of the BJP and a Lok sabha member from Jamshedpur. BJP president Nitin Gadkari and senior leader L.K. Advani were not present at the function. Former BJP chief Rajnath Singh attended as did BJP chief ministers Raman Singh of Chhattisgarh , Ramesh Pokhriyal of Uttarakhand along with senior BJP leaders like Ravishankar Prasad, Rajeev Pratap Rudi, S.S. Ahluwalia and Vijay Goel. With Arjun Munda taking the oath, President Rule came to an end after nearly three and half months. It was imposed on June 1 after the resignation of Shibu Soren as chief minister May 31. Munda had staked the claim to form the government Sep 7 with support from JMM, AJSU, Janata Dal-United (JD-U) and two independent legislators. He is likely to seek the trust vote on Thurseday. He presently enjoys support of 45 MLAs. In a related development, the Rajya Sabha MP Ram Dayal Munda had resigned as the Chairman of Tribal Advisory Council, which is generally held ex-officio by the Chief Minister of the state.
