The area under cultivation of kharif crops this year is over 64 lakh hectares more than last year when there were drought conditions in many districts. The area under cultivation of these crops is over eleven lakh hectares as compared to 2008. These crops include Rice, Pulses, Coarse cereals, Sugarcane as well as Jowar, Bajra, Maize, Jute, Oilseeds and Cotton.
