Are you planning to ban junk food in schools, Delhi HC asks Centre

The Delhi High Court today directed the Centre to inform it within six weeks whether the government has framed any policy banning junk food and carbonated drinks in schools. The court has given this direction acting on a PIL seeking a ban on junk food which allegedly cause damage to health and mental growth of children. The PIL said that banning junk food and carbonated drinks in schools will set new standards for healthy food that will make our kids feel better, grow better and learn better and it will improve the nutrition quality of school meals and remove junk food from schools. The court issued notices to the Centre, the city government and the National Commission For Protection Of Child Rights and asked them to file their responses.
