The government today said that Archaeological Survey of India has excavated number of sites of historical importance in the country. In a written statement in the Rajya Sabha, culture minister Mrs Chandresh Kumari Katoch said in the last three years from 2009-12 many sites have been excavated namely Bangarh district in South Dinajpur in West Bengal, at Malhar in Bilaspur district in Chattisgarh, Sisupalgarh district in khurda in Odisha and Kondapur in Medak district in Andhra Pradesh. She informed a few sites are being buried due to developmental activities and expanding human habitation. Mrs katoch also informed the House that in case of a centrally protected site under threat, action is taken as per provisions of Ancient monuments and Archaeological sites and Remains Act.
