Arab League Chief to visit Syria on Friday

The Arab League has said that its secretary general will visit Syria on Friday, three days later than originally planned. The deputy leader of the Arab League told reporters in Cairo that it was decided after a telephone conversation between Arab League secretary general Nabil al-Arabi and Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem. Nabil al Arabi has been commissioned by the 22-member Arab League to travel to Damascus with a 13-point document outlining proposals to end the government's bloody crackdown on dissent and push Syria to launch reforms. The visit will take place amid reports of deadly crackdown on anti-regime protests in the country.
