The Arab League has backed the resumption of indirect peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians. The head of the League stressed that there will be no direct contact between the two sides at this stage. The Arab League endorsement follows an announcement by US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, that the indirect talks will resume within several days.The Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has welcomed progress towards talks but said he awaited a Palestinian response.
