The government's fiscal deficit during the first two months of the current fiscal was 2.28 lakh crore rupees, or 42.9per cent of the Budget estimate. The fiscal deficit during April and May of the last fiscal had stood at 37.5 per cent of the Budget estimate. According to data released by the Controller General of Accounts, tax revenue was 4.7 per cent of estimates.Total receipts from revenue and non-debt capital of the government during these two months was 4.8 per cent of the estimates for the current fiscal.The revenue deficit during April and May 2016 was 56.2 per cent of the budget estimate. The government aims to restrict the fiscal deficit to 3.5 per cent of GDP in the current fiscal.
