Chief election commissioner Nasim Zaidi has urged all stakeholders, including the Defence and the Home ministries to help Election Commission in revising electoral rolls of service voters, so that more security personnel can exercise their democratic right. <br/><br/>Speaking at seminar in New Delhi today, he said the electoral rolls relating to service voters are not updated. Mr Zaidi said out of nearly 25 lakh personnel of armed forces and central and state police organizations, only 14 lakh are service voters. He said, it is collective duty and constitutional obligation to have every eligible service voter on electoral roll.<br/> <br/>The chief election commissioner said he has written to External Affairs, Home and Defence Ministers requesting them to appoint nodal officers in their ministries. The nodal officers will regularly interact with the election machinery to help more and more service voters, posted at far off places, cast their vote through postal ballot.<br/> <br/>Mr Zaidi said the new Electronically Transmitted Postal Ballot System was successfully used as a pilot project in the Puducherry's Nellithope assembly constituency for service voters on 19th of this month.
