Appeal for peace and harmony after ruling by Allahabad HC on Ayodhya dispute

Centre and various state governments, several religious leaders, social workers and even the litigants of the Ayodhya title suit have appealed to the people not to allow peace and tranquility be disturb after a ruling by Allahabad High Court on Friday.The central government appealed for peace as the union Cabinet approved a resolution in this regard. It said the high court verdict will be just one step in the legal process and no attempt should be made by any section to provoke any other section or indulge in any expression of emotion that will hurt other sections.Some Hindu and Muslim litigants in the case asked their communities not to allow the verdict disturb the brotherhood among the countrymen. They said none of the community should react on the streets. Social organisations and individuals are making peace appeals through SMS.Mahant Jugal Kishore Sharan Shastri of Ram Janki Mandir in Ayodhya, has been sending SMS to people asking them to desist from clashing with each other in the name of Ram or Allah. A group had also been sending messages to Muslim brothers for offering special prayers and desist from any tactics which could lead to any kind of reaction from the other community. Niab Imam of Lucknow Idgah and member of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, Maulana Khalid Rasheed Firangimahli, asked Muslims to accept the verdict in the right spirit and not express either happiness or sorrow in public.’Protect thy neighbour” is the new mantra of the Uttar Pradesh police to check any possible untoward situation in the aftermath of the verdict.An exercise has been carried out where members of both the communities depending on their population in the respective areas has been asked to pledge to protect eachother.Fresh peace committees have been constituted at village and locality levels for keeping an eye on the situation and alert the force in case of trouble. The Uttar Pradesh government has cancelled all the requests pending before the district magistrates to take out “peace marches” in the state.Karnataka government today declared September 24 and 25 as holidays for all the educational institutions in the state as a preventive measure.Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa said the government had taken all preventive steps to ensure that no untoward incident takes place.He said he would hold a meeting of all political leaders and religious heads to seek their cooperation in maintainingcommunal harmony, peace, law and order.In Assam, a high alert has been sounded all over the State in view of the court verdict on the Ayodhya issue on September 24. Several other states have already taken such steps and appealed the people to maintain peace at any cost.
