AP: Tension in curfew ridden Vizianagaram; power crisis disrupts rail traffic & emergency services

In Andhra Pradesh, the situation in curfew bound Vijayanagaram district is still tense. Though no violence has been reported from the district headquarters during the past 12 hours, shoot at sight orders are still in place. Rapid Action and additional Para military forces have been deployed to bring back normalcy. Curfew was imposed on Saturday after the pro united Andhra demonstrations turned violent in the north coastal city of Vijayanagaram.

The normal life in 13 districts of Rayalaseema and Coastalandhra regions has crippled due to power shutdown. It has badly hit all major services like drinking water supply, medical services and railways. Dozens of Passenger and express trains were cancelled and many rescheduled in Vijayawada, Gudur, Nellore and Rajahmundry sections. Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy has appealed to Electricity employees to call off their stir on humanitarian grounds.

AIR correspondent reports that though the power supply resumed to some sections, late last evening, the senior railway officials are monitoring the situation. Meanwhile, TDP President Chandrababu Naidu is set to begin his indefinite fast in Delhi this afternoon while hunger strike of YSR Congress party president YS Jaganmohan Reddy entered the third day today.
