The Centre has rushed 39 teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) comprising 1,573 personnel, 193 boats and other equipment to Andhra Pradesh and Odisha in view of fast approaching cyclone 'Hudhud'.
Home Minister Rajnath Singh said the NDRF has set up a Control Room at Delhi whose number is – 011-26107953. Mr. Singh said, the Control Room is monitoring a situation and is also in touch with other agencies to provide rescue and relief in case of emergent situation.
Met Department has said that the cyclone which is expected to cross north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts between Vishakhapatnam and Gopalpur by Sunday noon, will have more impact in Vishakhapatnam than in Odisha.
Its Director General L.S. Rathore said the cyclone will start impacting the region from today with a wind speed of 50 to 60 kilometres per hour.
Mr. Rathore said the wind speed of the cyclone will increase upto 155 kilometres per hour by the time it crosses north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts by tomorrow noon.
Andhra Pradesh government has ordered evacuation of people from coastal areas and deployed rescue teams at vulnerable points. The cyclonic system is currently lay centered at about 350 km southeast of Visakhapatnam and 390 Km South Southeast of Gopalpur.
South Odisha is also likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall at some places during next 24 hours. More from our correspondent:
Indian Railways has decided to cancel, short terminate and divert some trains in view of the cyclone.
