AP, Odisha coastal areas on high alert as cyclonic storm Phailin intensifies

In Andhra Pradesh, authorities are bracing themselves to meet any exigency as the storm in the Bay of Bengal intensified into a severe cyclonic storm. High alert has been sounded and all precautionary measures are being taken as Met officials indicate that the cyclone, being called, ‘Phailin’, is expected to cross the coast with wind speed up to 185 kilometers per hour tomorrow at Gopalapuram of Odisha between Kalingapatnam and Paradeep.
Chief Minister Kiran kumar Reddy who reviewed the situation with District Collectors has directed the authorities to take all precautions to reduce damages.

In Odisha, Phailin, over east central Bay of Bengal, has intensified further and lay centred about 650 km southeast of Paradip and 700 km southeast of Gopalpur. Under the influence of this system, heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places will occur over coastal Odisha from this evening.

Distant Warning Signal Number Two has been hoisted at Paradip and Gopalpur ports in Odisha. NDMA Vice Chairman, Sashidhar Reddy said, all arrangements are in place to meet any eventuality arising out of the cyclonic storm
