The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to put in place a cap on the tuition fee reimbursement at 31 thousand 200 rupees per student and introduce eligibility criteria under Tuition Fee Reimbursement scheme to pursue higher education. Presently the government has been reimbursing 100 percent tuition fee for the BC, EBC, SC- ST and Minority students to pursue higher and professional courses including engineering and Medicine on the saturation basis. This was decided at a meeting of the Cabinet Sub Committee and a panel of experts yesterday in Hyderabad in the wake of recent ruling from the Supreme Court.Accordingly, from this academic year, the state will pay only 31,200 rupees towards tuition fee for each student even if the college charges more. Eligibility criteria will be enforced and students who cleared at least 50 percent subjects will get fee reimbursement for next academic year. In Case of SCs and STs, the differential amount in tuition fee will be adjusted in central funds.About 24 lakh BC, EBC, SC, ST and Minorities students are presently getting benefit under the scheme which is costing the state about 3000 crore rupees annually.
