Andhra Pradesh Government has invited the leaders of Telangana Employees Joint Action Committee for talks today to discuss their strike notices. The state Cabinet Sub Committee which is looking into employees demands appealed to the employees, teachers and trade unions to withdraw their strike notices as it will cause inconvenience to common people. Addressing a press conference in Hyderabad yesterday the state Finance Minister and convener of the sub-committee on employees issues, A. Ramanarayana Reddy said the Government has already fulfilled most of their demands and is ready to accept the remaining if they are in the purview of the state.Stating that the proposed strike would disrupt supply of essential commodities like milk and water, and implementation of welfare programmes, the Minister asked them to not to put people to inconvenience. Among a host of issues, the Telangana Employees JAC had been demanding for setting up a judicial commission to safeguard their rights and served a notice to go on strike from 17th of this month.Responding to the employees demand against invoking the Essential Services Maintenance Act-ESMA, the Finance Minister said ESMA was invoked in only eight departments to ensure smooth functioning relating to public services. He also said the deployment of armed forces near Government offices was only to maintain law and order.
