AP govt announces compensation to kin of those who died in rain related incidents

Andhra Pradesh Government has announced an assistance of Rs one lakh, 50 thousand to the families of those who died in rain related incidents. Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy decided this at a high level review meeting held on Monday morning in Hyderabad.

He directed district authorities to immediately release funds to carry out rescue and relief operations.

Rescue and relief operations are underway in full swing in north coastal region of the state.

Revenue Minister Raghuveera Reddy later told reporters that compensation will be paid for damaged houses and death of animals due to heavy rains that are lashing several parts of the state for the past few days.

According to him, about 90 thousand people are taking shelter at 170 relief camps set up in Srikakulam, visakhapatnma, East and West Godavari, Krishna, Guntur and Khamma which were the worst hit. Standing crop and horticulture produce damaged in about 6 lakh hectare.

46 municipalities have been affected due to heavy rains and drinking water supply has been hit in over 500 villages.

Electricity supply has been cut off to 225 villages while Highways of about 7 thousand kilometres are damaged and over 1300 tanks have been breached.
