AP flood situation improves

In Andhra Pradesh, the flood situation has improved a bit in Krishna, Guntur and Nalgonda districts with inflows reaching Prakasam barrage at Vijayawada city have come down. However, the danger of submergence still looms large over 200 island villages and the Diviseema region as nearly 10 lakh cusecs of water is being released from Prakasam barrage downstream.<br/><br/>Chief Minister K Rosaiah said last night that the inundation threat would be averted by this night, as the out flows would be further regulated to 8 lakh cusecs at Prakasam barrage.<br/><br/>He said the inflows into various reservoirs in the state have come down considerably. Meanwhile, massive relief operations are underway in Kurnool and Mahaboobnagar districts that have been devastated due to worst ever floods. The Government has doubled the exgratia to Rs 2 lakh to the kin of each of 52 flood victims and also increased the immediate assistance provided to people who rendered homeless to Rs 3000.
