In Andhra Pradesh, emergency medical services have been paralyzed at all Government teaching hospitals even as the Group of Ministers discussing the issue of Junior Doctors’ agitation.About 1500 junior doctors in Government teaching hospitals across the state have stopped attending emergency duties since last evening. They boycotted even the critical services at the casualty wards and intensive care units of various departments.AIR correspondent says, since most of the emergency services are rendered by the junior doctors, hundreds of patients are suffering due to lack of medical services at the major government hospitals.The situation is serious at the hospitals in Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Kurnool, Guntur and Kakinada as most of them are referral hospitals.In an effort to make alternate arrangements, the services of non-clinical specialties staff are being used at some hospitals.However, these measures are proving inadequate in tackling the huge number of critically ill patients.The Group of Ministers set up on the issue is holding discussions and taking stock of the situation. They also held a round of talks with the representatives of agitating Junior Doctors. The junior doctors are agitating since 11th of last month demanding about 40 per cent hike in their stipend and better facilities at emergency wards. They are also demanding for reducing the three year compulsory service in rural areas to one year.
