AP CM sits on dharna in Delhi to oppose creation of Telangana; meets President

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy has urged President Pranab Mukherjee, not to recommend the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Bill – 2013 for introduction in the Parliament and keep the state united. Briefing reporters after meeting the President, Mr Reddy said, both the Houses of the state legislature had already rejected the Bill.

He said, 75 to 80 per cent of people are are in favour of united Andhra Pradesh and the state's division would only negate development in both Telangana and Seemandhra regions. Mr Reddy said, the state's division would lead to power and water shortage in Telangana and hamper education and medical facilites in Seemandhra region.

The Chief Minister accompanied by a delegation of State and Central Ministers and other public representatives of Seemandhra region, met the President at Rashtrapathi Bhawan this evening and submitted a memorandum to this effect. The Chief Minister had a one-to-one meeting with Mr Pranab Mukherjee and urged him to oppose the creation of Telangana.

Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister held a sit-in protest at Jantar Mantar in support of a united Andhra Pradesh.

Meanwhile, YSR Congress President and Lok Sabha Member, Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has also called on the President this evening and urged him to keep the state united.
