Both the houses of the Andhra Pradesh Legislature today passed a resolution rejecting the State Reorganization Bill by voice vote.
Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy moved the single line resolution amidst pandemonium seeking rejection of the Bill that proposed bifurcation of the state. It was passed by voice vote.
Admitting the notice given by the Chief Minister, Speaker N. Manohar said he received an official notice and 10 other notices for resolution and said there was no need to take up remaining notices as the Chief Minister’s resolution was passed.
The speaker also said the proceedings of the Assembly along with the views of the members are being sent to the president as directed by him under the article 3 of the Constitution.
He informed the house that 86 members took part in the debate over the bill and 9 thousand 72 amendments have been proposed by members and all of them are being sent as part of the proceedings.
In the Legislative Council also leader of the House C Ramachandraiah moved the resolution proposing to reject the bill which was passed by voice vote.
Our correspondent reports that putting an end to the impasse prevailing in the Andhra Pradesh Legislature for the past three days, both the Assembly and Council passed resolutions rejecting the State Reorganization Bill that proposed bifurcation of the state.
Amidst pandemonium, Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy moved a resolution seeking rejection of the bill while the Endowment Minister C Ramachandraiah moved it in the Council.
Members including Ministers from Telangana region across party lines thronged the Well of the House while members who support united Andhra Pradesh strategically stood in guard for the speaker and the Chief Minister.
Acrimonious scenes took place when members push each other and when some of the Telangana supporters climbed the tables of the secretarial staff in their attempts to stop the proceedings.
As the speaker said 86 members took part in the debate over the Bill and 9 thousand and 72 amendments were received and the same are being passed on as directed by the President under the article 3 of the Constitution..
