In Punjab, any Food Processing unit to be set up in the state will be free from any taxes. Announcing this during Progressive Punjab Summit at Mohali, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said that there would be no VAT, Purchase Tax and CST on new food processing units in the state. He said aim of this facility is to give incentive to food industry as raw material for this is available in the state. He also announced that all industries would get subsidised power at the rate of rupees 5 per unit for 5 years. Mr.Badal said that state government has created a land pool at 630 places, which would be given to set up new industrial units. He said a new office under the name of Invest Punjab has been set up in the state which provides all 23 clearances required to set up any industry.He said CEO of Investment Punjab provides all clearances in one month only to set up new industrial units and 83 hundred companies have contacted this office so far.Mr. Sukhbir Badal said 2000 Skill Development Centres are being set up in the state to give skill training to 1.5 lakh youth. On the occasion of this second summit of its kind, industrialists from India and abroad are participating in this Summit. On the first day of the Summit, 83 MoUs of 112 crore rupees have been signed to set up new units.
