Defence Minister Mr A K Antony will dedicate the Indian Navy's Financial Information System (FIS) to the nation in New Delhi on Saturday.
The Indian Navy, in a first among all armed forces and departments of the Ministry of Defence, that is switching to a completely online Enterprise Resource Planning, ERP based system .
This is being done for managing budgeting and expenditure activities in accordance with existing financial regulations.
According to navy officials, the FIS system is a powerful tool for effective management of the naval budget, both capital and revenue.
The system provides a unified platform to bring together all organisations involved in budgetary estimation, allocation and expenditure of public money.
The new FIS links the New Delhi-based Naval Headquarters with the Command Headquarters, and further, various ships and establishments across different locations in the country.
