The Maharashtra and Gujarat coast line security has been strengthened with the inauguration of a chain of Remote Operating Station of the Coastal Radar Network. Two stations of the Coast Guards – one at Mumbai and the other at Porbandar – was inaugurated today by Defence Minister A.K. Antony. This will help improve surveillance cover along India’s sensitive coastline and aims at preventing undetected intrusion of vessels along the coastline.
Speaking at the function to inaugurate the project, defense minister, AK Anthony said, that the first phase of the project on mainland and island territories along the coast will be completed by September this year. The second phase is expected to be completed by March next year. He said that the need for strengthening maritime security along India’s sensitive coast was felt especially in the aftermath of the 26/ 11 Mumbai attacks.
Answering a query, Antony said, efforts are on to resolve the Sir Creek issue with Pakistan.
