Antony expresses need for increased vigilance owing to threats from sea

Defence Minister has expressed the need for increased vigilance and response to threats from sea. <br/><br/>A K Antony was reviewing the progress of coastal security measures undertaken by Navy, Coast Guard and other related Ministries in a high level meeting held in New Delhi ton Friday. <br/><br/>He desired that the decisions and approvals for coastal security including the procurement cases should be implemented in a time-bound manner and the concerned agencies should regularly monitor the progress. <br/><br/>He also highlighted the need for formation of State Maritime Boards by Coastal States, as these boards will function as coordinating agencies for coastal security and other related issues. He said three states have already established these boards. <br/><br/>The Minister informed the meeting that he will take up with the other State Governments for establishing these boards on priority.<br/><br/> <br/>The meeting was attended by Cabinet Secretary, Chief of Naval Staff, Defence Secretary, Secretary Shipping, Secretary Border Management, Secretary Fisheries, DG Coast Guard and other senior officials.
