Defence Minister A.K. Antony has said that there are enough troops in jammu and Kashmir and the government is taking all steps to protect the interests of the country. Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function in Gurgaon, Mr. Antony said that the ceasefire violations by Pakistan are a matter of serious concern and the provocative action of brutal killing of two Indian soldiers is a turning point. The Minister said, the government is closely monitoring the developments and troops are on alert.
Meanwhile, PMO sources told All India Radio that the Defence Secretary and the National Security Advisor have apprised the Prime Minister of the current situation on the LOC.
There has been no response from the Pakistani side so far to India's call for a Brigadier level Flag meeting at the Line of Control to defuse tension between the two countries. Pakistani army reported Fresh firing yesterday evening at several Indian posts in the Krishna Ghati and Sona Gali sectors of Jammu and Kashmir.
Indian high commissioner in Islamabad Sharat Sabharwal, on being called by Pakistan Foreign secretary Jalil Abbas Jilani over the incident in Battal sector of the LoC, said that India had only resorted to controlled response to the unprovoked firing by Pakistani army on Thursday along the LoC in Mendhar sector in Jammu and Kashmir.
Official spokesperson in the Ministry of external affairs in New Delhi said, that the Indian envoy also stressed the need for holding the sanctity of LoC and adherence of the Simla Agreement to sort out bilateral issues. The spokesperson also reiterated India's position that it was capable of resolving the issue bilaterally and rejected the role of the UN or any third party. He also noted that DGMO's of both the countries were in regular touch.
