Defence Minister has directed the Army and the Navy to ascertain facts about the ownership rights of the land of the Adarsh Housing Society in Mumbai. Defence Ministry sources said in New Delhi, Mr. A.K. Antony has asked for the status of land as to whether the plot was a defence land and whether the high rise structure that has come on the land in Colaba area, casts a shadow on national security. Earlier, Mr. Antony had said that the government is seized of the matter and the report is being examined seriously. Sources said the decision was taken following a meeting on the issue. AIR correspondent reports that the replies from the Army and Navy would form the basis of the kind that ministry may take. In the meantime, the controversy over the Adarsh Housing society building is deepening with the list of flat owners including the name of Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan's late mother-in-law. The 103 names released by the society, also includes the names of former Union Minister Suresh Prabhu, NCP MLC Jitendra Avhad, Congress leader Kanhaiyalal Gidwani and his two sons, a close aide of a senior Maharashtra Minister, the children of some bureaucrats, serving bureaucrats and other prominent figures.
