A meeting of the top officials of Union Home Ministry, Intelligence Bureau and the Assam Police was held in New Delhi on Friday. It decided to continue anti-insurgency operations against banned extremist outfit ULFA in Assam till the outfit agreed to talks. The security meeting, chaired by Union Home Secretary Mr G.K. Pillai reviewed in detail the anti-ULFA operations and the outfit’s response to Union Home Minister Mr P. Chidambaram’s offer of dialogue. Halting anti-ULFA operations was ruled out since it was feared that such a move would offer the outfit an opportunity to regroup, as had happened a couple of years ago. The meeting also reviewed activities of the Ranjan Daimary-led faction of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB).

Apart from Union Home Secretary Mr Pillai, the meeting was attended by Assam Director-General of Police Mr Shankar Barua and Centre’s interlocutor Mr P.C.
