Anti-Tobacco messages in movie-theaters prove effective: Health Ministry

Ministry of health and family welfare today revealed in Mumbai that anti-Tobacco messages in movie-theaters prove effective and therefore stronger implementation of the policy is required to make the country Tobacco-free. The findings of a study titled "Evaluation of Tobacco-Films and Television Policy in India" to assess the implementation of the 'Film rule' under the Cigarettes and other Tobacco products Act (COTPA) were made public at a National Consultation organized jointly by World Health Oganisation (WHO), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.<br/> '<br/>The study found that the messages when properly implemented, are effective in countering the tobacco imagery- even prompting decision to quit the habit. However urgent need for better implementation is required. The findings further said that though 99 per cent of films with tobacco films implemented at least one film rule, only 27 percent of the films implemented all three rules fully.
