Anti-tobacco health spots to be displayed in beginning, middle of films displaying tobacco products

Anti-tobacco health spots of minimum 30 seconds will be mandatory to be displayed at the beginning and middle of feature films displaying tobacco products or their use and depicting smoking scenes. Besides, an audio-visual disclaimer of minimum 20-second on the ill-effects of tobacco use has also to be displayed at the beginning and middle of these films. An agreement to this effect on draft notification regarding depiction of smoking scenes in films has been reached between the ministries of Information and Broadcasting and Health.

An official statement says, films showing use of tobacco products have to display an anti-tobacco health warning in the form of a static message during the period of display of the tobacco products or their use in the films.

The health ministry has agreed to bear all the costs relating to production of such health spots and disclaimers. It has also agreed to drop the clause that necessitated 'UA' certification for the films showing tobacco products or their use.
