Anti militancy operation underway in north Kashmir

In Jammu & Kashmir, the joint cordon and search anti militancy operation launched by the Army and Special Operations Group (SOG) of J&K Police is underway in north Kashmir's Bandipora district since early morning today. The operation was launched after specific intelligence reports established the presence of unknown militants in the area.<br/><br/>Defence spokesman Col N N Joshi told AIR that three unidentified militants were killed in the operation launched in Khosa Mohalla of Hajin Sonawari area in the district. He said the bodies were retrieved from the encounter site. Reports said the residential house in which the militants were hiding, was damaged in the gunfight between security forces and the militants. <br/><br/>Reports said during the day the clashes erupted between Police and CRPF men and the local protesters in the Hajin area for around an hour. Meanwhile, the deployment of police and paramilitary CRPF personnel has been augmented in the area to maintain law and order after militant killing.

The operation was launched after specific intelligence reports established the presence of unknown militants in the area.<br/><br/>DIG Police North Kashmir Range Gareeb Das confirmed to AIR that one unidentified militant was killed in the operation launched in Khosa Mohalla of Hajin Sonawari area in the district. He said the body was not retrieved from the encounter site till now. DIG said two more militants are believed to be trapped near the site and the operation is in progress. <br/><br/>Reports said the residential house in which the militants were hiding, was damaged in the gunfight between security forces and the militants. Reports said during the day the clashes erupted between Police and CRPF men and the local protesters in the Hajin area for around an hour. Meanwhile, the deployment of police and paramilitary CRPF personnel has been augmented in the area to maintain law and order after militant killing.
