Anti militancy operation in progress in Kashmir

In Jammu and Kashmir, the anti militancy operation is in progress in few villages in Awantipora area of Pulwama district in south Kashmir. The encounter started late last afternoon after security forces launched operation near Goripora area of Awantipora. The area is in close vicinity of Indian Air Force's Awantipora Base, one of the largest aerodromes in north India.<br/><br/>Inspector General Police Kashmir Range Javed Mujtaba Gillani told AIR that two militants were killed in the ongoing operation till now. He said the cordon and search operation was in progress in Wandakhpora and adjacent villages. One of the slain Lashkar militants Abu Okasha, was wanted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Udhampur National Highway attack on a BSF convoy in August last year that resulted into death of two BSF troopers.<br/><br/> Reports said that villagers, mostly youths came out and pelted stones at the security forces in the area where gunfight was going on. Two more militants were believed to be holed up in the cordoned area. PRO Defence denied reports of injuries to three army personnel in the gunfight.
