Anti-Human Trafficking Bill to be passed by Dec 2016: Maneka Gandhi

Union Minister for Women and Child Development Maneka Gandhi has said the country's first ever comprehensive Anti-Human Trafficking Bill will be passed by this December. Addressing a function organised by a voluntary organization in Chennai working among street children, she said consultation processes are going on with various stakeholders to give a final shape to the Bill.<br/><br/>The Minister also said, a new web-based scheme called "E-Box" would be introduced nationwide soon for children facing sexual offences and abuse to confidentially lodge their complaints.<br/><br/>The toll-free Childline that was introduced in 1998 has so far helped in rescuing and rehabilitating over a crore children, she said. The Minister said, the problem of thousands of children who go missing can be checked only if all are sensitive to the welfare of children. She added that20 railway stations across the country which are frequented more by child traffickers are being closely monitored. <br/><br/>Later, in a separate event, Ms Maneka Gandhi heard the opinion of state anti-trafficking officials and voluntary organisations on the proposed Anti-Trafficking Bill.
