In Bangladesh, an anti-government strike entered its second day today with reports of protesters setting vehicles ablaze. The two-day nationwide strike – the second one this month – began on Sunday, closing shops and businesses, and disrupting transportation. Clashes between police and strikers were reported in Dhaka, the capital, where several arrests were reported. The strike was also felt in the port city of Chittagong, the country's second largest. The 36-hour work stoppage was called by the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party and its Islamic ally, Jamaat-e-Islami. They are protesting a proposed amendment to the nation's constitution that they say favours the incumbent government.
